WeChat to Markdown
Save WeChat articles as Markdown files for your notes, with the pictures kept
Forreaders of WeChat Official Accounts who keep notes in Obsidian or SiYuan Browser extension
A WeChat article worth keeping has a habit of disappearing, deleted by its author or buried under months of newer posts. Copied into a notes app by hand, it loses the pictures and most of the layout on the way. As an extension for Chrome and Edge, WeChat to Markdown saves the open article as a Markdown file. That plain-text format opens in note apps like Obsidian and SiYuan.
The privacy policy says article text, addresses and titles stay in your browser and never reach the maker's server. Each file starts with the title, author, publish date and source link, and images can travel along in a ZIP for offline reading. Blog and news pages work too, though complex layouts may come out incomplete. A smaller community edition with the single-article export is open source on GitHub.
On a public WeChat collection page, the full version archives the whole series in order, one ZIP for every 20 articles. Interrupted runs resume, and later runs add only the newly published articles. The extension reads only pages your browser opens without a WeChat login. Saved articles sit in a local library in the browser, which is lost when the extension is removed or browser data is cleared.
Good fit if you…
- read WeChat Official Accounts and want the articles in your own notes
- want to archive a whole WeChat collection as files
