Math notes come with homework of their own: remembering that a fraction is \frac before the lecturer changes slides. LaTeX is the code that note apps turn into neat formulas, and LaTeX Autofill helps you write it in Obsidian, the note-taking app. Inside a formula you type what you mean, say "partial derivative" or 偏导数, and matching templates pop up at the cursor.

Picking one inserts the whole formula with sample contents already in place. Tab then jumps from one blank to the next, through every cell of a matrix as well. Next to the hand-picked templates, of which the README counts 236, sits a full list of plain commands for people who already know the names. The plugin completes LaTeX only and leaves ordinary words alone.

The README says the plugin runs offline and calls no AI service. It also warns against switching on the LaTeX completion of the Completr plugin at the same time, since two lists would then open at once. Installation runs through Obsidian's community plugin directory, and the code is public on GitHub.

Good fit if you…

  • take math or science notes in Obsidian
  • think of formulas by their Chinese name
