FileMerges

The application form has room for one upload, which the CV and four certificates, still five separate PDFs, will have to share. FileMerges has a separate merger page for each file type: PDFs, Word documents, Excel and CSV tables, images, MP3 audio, JavaScript and plain text. You drop the files onto the page, no account needed, and drag them into the order they should appear in.

The PDF merger works with whole documents, so single pages cannot be picked out. Word merging accepts DOCX files only and copies the main body text, with an optional page break before each source document. Headers and footers are worth a look in the result, the page advises, and so are styles. In the Excel and CSV mergers you map columns and choose what happens when two sheets share a name.

By the site's account, the merging runs in your browser, so the files stay on your computer. Up to 20 files fit in one merge, with 100 MB allowed per PDF and 50 MB per Word, Excel or MP3 file. Next to the mergers sits a comparison tool that shows, in colour, what changed between two text or code files.
