Clients who get mail from a free webmail address may take the business for a weekend hobby, though running your own mail server is a hobby in itself. MailTova hosts email on a domain you already own, so the address carries your company name after the @. You read it in the MailTova webmail or in the mail app on your laptop or phone.

Setup starts with adding the domain in the dashboard. MailTova then shows the DNS records to paste at your domain provider, which tell other servers where your mail goes and who may send it. It checks each record and shows a status for it, including the SPF, DKIM and DMARC entries that receiving servers use to spot forged mail.

MailTova resells and manages a service from an unnamed email infrastructure partner, the terms say, and that partner runs the mail itself. Each mailbox comes with 1 GB of storage and may send up to 300 messages an hour and 7,200 a day, with bulk and marketing mail ruled out.

Good fit if you…

  • own a domain and want a few branded mailboxes without setting up a mail server
  • run email for several domains or brands from one dashboard
