CSV Essentials Toolkit
Clean up messy CSV exports on your own computer before the next import
Forpeople who move CSV exports between shops, spreadsheets and other tools Command line
The customer export opens in Excel with every "Café" turned into "Café". For CSV files, the plain-text tables that shops and accounting tools pass around, CSV Essentials Toolkit bundles three small offline programs. The first one opens in your browser and adds a short marker, the UTF-8 BOM, that tells Excel how to read the letters. The product page says the file stays on your computer during this step.
The other two are Python scripts started from a terminal, the window for typed commands. For the column mapper, a small JSON settings file says which old column becomes which new one, and in what order. The duplicate finder compares rows by one key column or by several together. It writes the unique rows and the duplicate groups into two new files and leaves the original as it was.
The tools run one after another by hand and work on CSV files only. Duplicates must match exactly, though spaces can be trimmed and upper and lower case ignored first. No account or network connection is needed, according to the page. The bundle is sold on itch.io, a store for independent downloads, which also offers each of the three tools on its own.
Good fit if you…
- clean up exports before importing them into a CRM, shop or accounting tool
- want CSV files processed on your own computer
