MIDIFLOW
Get the notes out of a recording as a MIDI file you can edit in music software
Formusicians and producers who want the notes from a recording Web
One note of the bass line still hides from your ear after the tenth rewind of the chorus. MIDIFLOW listens to the recording in the browser and writes the notes it hears into a MIDI file. MIDI stores notes instead of sound, so each one can later be moved or given another instrument.
The transcription comes from Basic Pitch, an open-source model by Spotify, and runs on your own computer or phone. After a conversion, the original plays next to a simple synth version of the detected notes. A threshold slider then keeps fewer, surer notes or lets quieter ones back in.
The site calls the result an editable first pass. It suggests starting with one instrument or one sung line, because a finished mix with drums and reverb produces missed and extra notes. The .mid download holds pitch, timing, velocity and pitch bends, and short guides explain how to import it into three music programs.
Good fit if you…
- want a melody or chord part from a recording as editable notes
- prefer to keep unreleased recordings on your own device
