ImageDXF
Trace a logo or drawing into a DXF file your laser cutter or CNC machine can follow
Forpeople who cut signs and parts on a laser, plasma table or router Web
Emailed over as a JPG the size of a postage stamp, a customer's logo gives a laser cutter no lines to follow. ImageDXF traces the dark shapes in a picture and saves them as a DXF, the drawing format that cutting machines and their software read. Each outline comes out closed, so the machine can tell the inside of a part from the outside.
The drawing is scaled to the width or height you enter in millimetres or inches. While you move the threshold slider that decides which pixels belong to a shape, red cut lines over the image show the result. Before the download, a machine check counts open paths and inner cut-outs and flags parts under 0.5 mm that are likely to burn away.
The open-source VTracer does the tracing inside the browser, and the privacy policy says the picture stays on your computer. Photos of people or objects only convert well when the subject stands out from a plain background.
Good fit if you…
- get logos or lettering from customers as images and need cut-ready outlines
- want the file at its real size before it reaches the cutting software
