HelpWell
Let an AI answer support chats from your docs, with a link to each source
Forsmall software teams who answer customer questions themselves Web, Command line
The fifth customer this week asks how to reset a password, and the answer has sat in the help center since spring. HelpWell puts an AI agent into a chat widget on a software product's site. It answers from the product's own help articles and links the article behind each answer. For questions the articles leave open, the agent says it does not know and offers a person or an email reply.
One command drafts the first help articles from the codebase, and after each change pushed to GitHub the tool rewrites the articles that went out of date. Those rewrites arrive as pull requests, proposed edits a developer reviews and accepts. Questions the agent could not answer turn into draft articles or new agent rules, and a person approves each one before it goes live.
The open-source core is licensed under AGPL-3.0 and runs on the team's own server, with a built-in database for a first try. For answers, the team plugs in its key for OpenRouter, a service that passes requests on to AI models from several companies. Ticketing and newsletters come only with HelpWell Cloud, the hosted version, which also adds a shared inbox for chat and email.
Good fit if you…
- want support answers tied to your own help articles
- keep your docs on GitHub and want them to follow code changes
