Chrome Extension Downloader
Look inside a Chrome extension before you install it, or download its package
Forextension makers and people vetting browser extensions Web, API
Right there beside the Add button, a coupon extension asks to read every website you visit. Chrome Extension Downloader lets you look inside first. Give it a store link or ID and it offers the package as CRX or ZIP, the formats extensions ship in, without installing anything. A source viewer shows the collected code, and a permissions tool lists what the extension declares it may access.
Extension makers can use the same data to watch a market. The homepage counted 288,777 extensions and over 4.8 million reviews in November 2026, and changes in users and ratings are tracked over time. A copycat checker compares the JavaScript of two extensions and flags possible shared libraries. Its page says no fixed percentage proves a copy, and reports are public unless you untick that option.
The security checker rates what an extension's permissions could affect if misused, and the site says this is no malware verdict. API keys open a read-only REST interface and an MCP server for AI coding assistants. Some older versions and removed extensions may be unavailable for download. The footer calls the service independent and not affiliated with Google or the Chrome Web Store.
Good fit if you…
- want to check an extension's code and permissions before installing it
- build extensions and follow how competitors' users and reviews change
