On the bus, many phones are playing a video and few have the sound on. Short videos on TikTok or Instagram are often watched muted, and typing captions for every clip by hand is slow work. In CapCut the captions are written from the spoken audio, and you correct the text and timing before export. The editor also trims clips and adds transitions and music.

Longer recordings like a podcast or a lecture go through the AI clip maker, which picks out highlights and cuts them into separate short videos. Wide 16:9 footage is reframed to the upright 9:16 phone format, and subject tracking keeps the speaker in the picture. With transcript-based editing, deleting words from the text removes the matching part of the video. Transcripts work in more than 100 languages, the transcript page says.

CapCut can also make material from scratch: text-to-speech turns a written script into a voiceover, and the AI video generator builds clips from a text prompt or from images. Video Studio assembles a whole video from a chat, including its style and an avatar. Ready-made templates for Reels and TikTok give a starting design that you fill with your own clips and text.

CapCut works in the browser and as a phone app. The desktop app runs on Windows 7 or later and macOS 10.14 or later, and adds keyframe animation and a color wheel for grading. Its search finds clips by what is said or shown in them.
