Between the job offer and the first payday, a good share of the salary turns into taxes nobody mentioned. USPaycheckGuide works out the amount left on each paycheck from a salary or hourly wage. You choose the state, the filing status and how often you get paid.

The result splits gross pay into federal and state income tax, Social Security and Medicare, with a coloured bar below that shows how big each share is. The effective and the marginal tax rate appear under the breakdown.

Pre-tax deductions change the answer, so the form takes a 401(k) percentage, health insurance premiums and HSA or FSA contributions. A result can be printed to PDF or copied as a link that opens the calculator with the same numbers filled in.

The site has about 160 more pages, one for each state and many for large cities with a local income tax. Others handle W-4 withholding, bonus tax, overtime and what an employee costs the employer. A methodology page lists the IRS and state sources and says the figures were checked for the 2026 tax year. Results are estimates for US taxes only, and the pages carry ads.

Good fit if you…

  • want to see what a raise, a new job or a 401(k) change does to each paycheck
  • live in a state or city with its own income tax and want it counted
