UkToolCalc

Two-thirds of the way along a garden wall the cement runs out, so the mortar on the board goes stiff while you drive back to the merchant. UkToolCalc turns the measurements of a building or DIY job into a list of materials to buy. Answers use the pack sizes British merchants sell, like 25kg cement bags or 850kg bulk bags of sand.

Each result adds a wastage allowance you can change. A table then sets the amount needed against the packs to buy, so the spare shows before you order. Every page gives its formula with a worked example, so the arithmetic can be checked by hand. Typical UK merchant prices fill the cost fields, each with the shop and the date it was checked, and any of them can be overwritten.

There are 41 calculators, from screed and plasterboard to roof tiles, decking and loft insulation. Some of them estimate a boiler size or a cost range for a loft conversion or an extension. Six project planners cover whole jobs such as a new patio or a shed base, where the sizes go in once and each step opens with them filled in. Any calculator can also be embedded on another website.

Calculations can be saved into a project, where matching materials add up to one shopping list. Projects and quotes are stored in the browser on that device, the site says, and a share link sends a project to another phone. A quote builder for tradespeople turns a project into an A4 PDF quotation with their logo, labour, VAT and payment stages. The site is funded by adverts and Amazon affiliate links.
