Last month's drinks, added up from memory, come out as a round number and a shrug. AlcoList keeps the count on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android, and each entry holds the volume and alcohol strength, with the price as an optional extra. You can save drinks you order often as templates and add them again with one tap.

A dashboard adds up the entries by day, week, month and year. The app colours each total against a drinking guideline you pick, with presets such as the UK's and the WHO's. A monthly calendar marks the days with drinks, and a rolling average line shows which way the habit is moving. Other charts break the total down by drink and by day of the week.

AlcoList works without an account, and the privacy policy says the log stays on your device. The site calls the app a record for personal awareness and adds that it offers no medical advice. On iPhone, iPad and Mac it needs system version 26 or later.

Good fit if you…

  • want to know what you drink in a month without relying on memory
  • would like to see what your drinking costs over time
