PII Blackout
Black out names and account numbers in PDF and Office files on your own PC
Forsolo lawyers, paralegals, bookkeepers and small offices that share client files Windows, Web
Under a black box drawn over it in a PDF, an account number is often still there for anyone who copies the text. The landlord wanted proof of income and gets your bank details as a bonus. PII Blackout finds personal data in PDF, Word and Excel files on your own Windows computer and deletes it there.
Pattern rules first look for card numbers, tax IDs and similar codes. An AI model trained on personal data then checks those hits and catches names the rules miss. Each match shows up highlighted in the document, where you can drop it or draw extra boxes before confirming. When you apply the changes, each page becomes a high-resolution image with the marked areas painted black, so the text underneath is gone.
Whole folders run through under one rule set, and every job writes a text report of what was removed per page. The site lists over 60 kinds of personal data and promises that files stay on your machine, with the app going online only to sign in at launch. A browser demo runs on the maker's server, while the Mac app is still in development.
Good fit if you…
- need to send statements, CVs or court files with the personal details removed
- may not upload client documents to an online tool
