Spot the GPS position and other hidden data in your files, then download a clean copy
Forpeople who share photos and documents and want the hidden details out first Web, Browser extension, Command line
Inside the photo of the bike you're selling, out of sight, may sit the exact GPS position of the shed it lives in. For images, PDFs, Word files, videos and MP3s, MetadataRemover.ai lists these hidden details. It then makes a cleaned copy and leaves the original alone. The site says files stay on your device, and no account is needed.
After cleaning, the tool reopens the new copy and checks that the chosen data is gone before the download. Images can go through a ready-made privacy preset, or you pick which groups of data to remove. Those range from camera details to the prompts that AI image generators write into their files. A Chrome extension handles quick image cleanup, and an open-source toolkit does all file types from the command line.
Content Credentials, a signed record of how an image was made, stay unless you select them or choose the broader cleanup. Invisible watermarks such as SynthID stay in the pixels, and the AI metadata page says cleaning does not make an image undetectable. Images can be up to 25 MB and PDFs up to 5 MB, and iPhone HEIC photos need a JPEG copy first.
Good fit if you…
- send photos or documents to strangers and want location or author details out first
- make AI images and would rather keep your prompts and settings to yourself
