Joycotter
Name what you would pay for a group trip and pitch ideas for things that should exist
Forpeople who want to co-fund group experiences or pitch ideas Web
Dinner ends with a unanimous yes to the group surf week and nobody offering to book it. Joycotter lets each person register a cash offer for a group experience, with the dates and conditions that suit them. The current list includes a potluck-style cruise and a week in Hawaii that mixes surfing with work on a reforestation project.
Offers are ranked from the highest down until the full cost is covered. If they cannot cover it, the crowdfunding page says, the experience does not go ahead and nobody pays. Accepted people pay the amount they offered and book with the company that runs the experience.
Users also post ideas and open questions for others to develop toward something that could be built or booked. Accepted ones go into a public catalogue on the sister site Should Exist. A joycott works the other way round from a boycott: a public promise to buy from or support someone once a stated condition is met. The current joycotts cover buying products sourced from new forests and a voting pledge.
Points come from accepted ideas and from shares that reach verified views, and they can be added to an experience offer. The terms state that Points are not money and that accounts are open from age 13. An AI scores contributions by default, and the account settings switch your own submissions to human review.
Good fit if you…
- want to put your share toward a group trip that only happens if enough people join
- like proposing ideas for things that should exist and collecting Points for them
