OMOPHub
Look up and translate medical codes from your own software without hosting the code tables
Fordata engineers and researchers who bring health records into the OMOP format Web, API
"Heart attack" in a doctor's note and I21.9 on an insurance claim mean the same illness, yet a research database counts them together only once both share one code. OMOPHub's vocabularies page alone lists 133 such code systems, and keeping them in sync can turn into somebody's permanent side job. OMOPHub hosts these tables and answers questions about them through an API.
Teams usually download the tables from ATHENA, run by the OHDSI research community, whose OMOP format stores patient data from different hospitals in one shape. Programs can look up a code or search by name, and semantic search finds a concept from a plain description. Mappings show which standard concept an old or local code points to, in bulk too.
For apps built on FHIR, a common format for exchanging health records, a resolver returns the OMOP concept and the table it belongs in. Client libraries cover Python, R and TypeScript, and a hosted MCP server lets an AI assistant look up codes during a chat.
The homepage promises an audit log of every API call, kept for seven years. The tables follow the official ATHENA releases, while CPT and MedDRA need separate licences and are left out.
Good fit if you…
- convert hospital or claims data into OMOP and need code mappings in the pipeline
- want an AI assistant to check medical codes against the official vocabularies
