Free Model
Find AI models you can call for free and check what each one needs before you build
Fordevelopers trying out AI models on a small budget Web
The weekend project needs an AI model on a budget of zero. Free versions of well-known models do exist, but they come and go within days and differ in their sign-up rules and usage limits. Free Model catalogs these free routes, which for now all come from OpenRouter, a service that opens many AI models through one account and key. The guide says more platforms will follow.
Every entry shows the model ID to paste into your code and the context window, meaning how much text the model can take in at once. It also says which inputs the model accepts and whether you need an account, a key or a payment card. Filters cover the same points, and routes that have stopped working are marked unavailable.
Detail pages carry copy-ready code and a test box that sends one message with your own OpenRouter key. According to the site, the key stays in your browser and goes straight to OpenRouter. A changes page logs each addition and removal with its date.
Good fit if you…
- want to try an AI model in a side project at no cost
- need the exact model ID and access rules before writing code
